Thanks to our 2010 Local Author Panel!

It’s rare that a conference allows teens to present – not to mention encouraging communication between teens and adults. As a writer for teens, there are few conferences that I find as valuable and inspiriting as this. It’s a thrill to attend.

Amy is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, the mother of five children, a former Army officer, freelance journalist, and a self-described "soccer mom extraordinaire." She lives in Denver, Colorado, with her husband, children, redbone coonhound, and Bengal cat. She has written two novels for young adults, Battle Dress and After, and she plans on writing many more. Becca Fitzpatrick grew up reading Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden with a flashlight under the covers. She graduated college with a degree in health, which she promptly abandoned for storytelling. Laura Resau

With a background in cultural anthropology and ESL-teaching, Laura Resau has lived and traveled extensively in Latin America. Her travel-adventure novels, The Indigo Notebook, Red Glass, and What the Moon Saw, have garnered many starred reviews and awards, including the International Reading Association Award, the Americas Award, Oprah's Pick, Colorado Book Awards, SLJ Best Book, BBYA, and others. Resau now lives with her husband and toddler in Fort Collins.

Todd Mitchell is the author of the middle grade novel, The Traitor King (Scholastic Press, 2007), and the young adult novel, The Secret to Lying (Candlewick Press, June 2010)He’s also a writer for a graphic novel coming out with D.C. comics in 2010, and he’s published several short stories, essays, and poems in national and international journals. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Beginning Creative Writing Teaching Program at Colorado State University. He lives in Fort Collins, Colorado with his wife, dog, and two daughters.

Tucker Shaw

Tucker Shaw, food editor and dining critic for the Denver Post, has published five YA novels, including Flavor of the Week and The Girls. His newest novel, Anxious Hearts (Abrams, Spring 2010), is a loose re-interpretation and recasting of Longfellow's epic "Evangeline". Tucker grew up in Maine and Colorado, and lived in New York for many years before returning to Denver in 2005.
